Deep Draw Hydroforming – Cookware / Bakeware Industry

This customer became the #1 supplier of US made cookware and bakeware by approaching Jones about a deep draw hydroforming project when developing a new line for market. The customer is now known for their superior product quality and design, and has become a market leader in developing new materials for the cookware market.

Originally, the customer did not want to spend large sums of company resources to enter this market segment. The cookware and bakeware market requires companies to offer a minimum number of standard sized pots and pans in order to offer the distributors a full line. The customer needed an economical way to offer a wide range of products with minimal tooling. They also needed near perfect surface conditions on every part. The cookware and bakeware market caters to discerning consumers who demand excellent products at competitive prices.

Hydroforming the parts using Cincinnati Hydroforms allowed Jones to make multiple parts on the same tooling by varying depths of draw and the thicknesses of materials used. Hydroforming does not have to be concerned with clearances between the tooling and material. The diaphragm of the press actually takes the place of the female portion of the die. There is a metal punch pushing the blank into the oil pressurized diaphragm. The rubber diaphragm also helps achieve a nearly perfect surface condition on the formed part. It is a gentler forming method than traditional stamping, greatly reducing the necessity for secondary polishing. All of these advantages of hydroforming give the customer a competitive advantage in their marketplace.

Jones has been a hydroforming supplier to this customer for many years and we now produce 25 different parts in multiple materials and depths. By forming a true working partnership, supplying hydroformed parts with outstanding tolerances and finishes, and by making our hydroforming presses available for research and development, the customer does most of their new product development for future cookware and bakeware lines at our plant.
