Vacuum Heat Treating: Swirl Cup for the Aerospace Industry

The part shown here is a swirl cup, which JMP manufactures for the aerospace industry.  This part is made from 0.090” Inconel 625, and the production process calls for extensive post form trimming and secondary operations.  Because the swirl cup is used where fuel is introduced into a jet engine’s combustion chamber, the part is subjected to extreme heat conditions, and high tolerances for flatness, ID, OD, and hole placement are absolutely necessary for the component to deliver maximum efficiency. Any variation in tolerances that takes place while the part is in use is unacceptable, so we stress relieve the part using vacuum heat treating prior to post form trimming.  Because the swirl cup is made of inconel, it must be vacuum heat treated to prevent surface oxidation of the surface.
